The CAP Agency is a private, non-profit human service organization serving a three-county area. The following is a list of its services, along with a short description and the phone number for each program. To reach a program, call the number listed above, unless otherwise indicated.
Children & Family Services
Child Care Resource and Referral 952-496-2125
Supports the development and maintenance of high quality childcare opportunities. Assists prospective providers in establishing their business and provides ongoing information to parents, providers and the community about current and emerging trends and issues in the area of early childhood care and education.

Crisis Nursery 763-591-0100
Provides parents in crisis with short-term day and overnight childcare. Also offers parents counseling, support and referral services. Telephone calls are answered 24 hours a day.
Head Start
Provides a family-oriented child development program providing education, social services and health and nutrition services for 3- to 5-year-olds from income-eligible families. Head Start also serves children with disabilities.
Food & Nutrition Services
Food Shelf 952-496-2125
Offers a nutritionally balanced food package to individuals and families who do not have adequate resources to meet their nutritional needs. The Food Shelf is located at 712 Canterbury Rd. S., Shakopee.
WIC (Women, Infants and Children) 952-402-9869
Provides nutrition education and food vouchers to qualifying women who are pregnant, breast-feeding or postpartum, and families with infants and children to age 5.
Meals on Wheels 952-402-9855
Provides weekday delivery of nutritious meals to homebound citizens age 60 and over. The Meals on Wheels service is available on a short-term or long-term basis.
Senior Dining 952-402-9855
Provides appetizing, nutritious meals and fellowship in a community setting, Monday-Friday, except holidays. Participants must be 60 years of age, or the spouse of a senior. A minimum contribution of $3 per meal is suggested. Reservations are required two days in advance.
Housing & Energy Services
Energy Assistance Program
Provides eligible households with grants to help with cost of heating bills and energy-related repairs.
Homeless Prevention
Helps people who are at risk of becoming homeless to maintain current housing. Assistance includes supportive services intended to help clients stabilize their situation and become self-reliant.
Transitional Housing
Provides homeless families and individuals with special needs safe, affordable housing for up to two years while they work toward self-reliance.
River Valley Nursing Center (RVNC) 952-496-8669

The RVNC assesses, educates and refers available services as a health care and community resource for community members in Scott and Carver counties.
Weatherization
Helps eligible homeowners and renters reduce their heating and cooling costs by providing insulation and caulking and making minor repairs.
Community-Based Services
Emergency Services
Provides funds for rent, prescriptions, automobile fuel, car repairs and other necessities to people in emergency situations when other options are not available. Assistance is given in the form of grants and no-interest loans.
Getting There
This program facilitates the donation of used vehicles to support the work of the Agency.
State Health Insurance Counseling 952-496-2125
Offers counseling regarding Medicare and other supplemental health insurance programs to seniors or people with disabilities who qualify for SSI and Medicare. Services include assistance resolving problems with Medicare bills, purchasing supplemental coverage or determining eligibility for “add on” programs.
Thrift Shop 952-402-9878
Provides a comfortable and upbeat department store atmosphere where gently used clothing and small household items can be purchased at very affordable prices. Located at 712 Canterbury Rd. S., Shakopee, the store is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Volunteers contribute their time to assist in the operation of the Thrift Shop, and all the items on the sales floor are donated.
Hope for the Holidays 952-496-2125
“Adopt-a-family” holiday gift sponsorship program that provides families with gifts for the December holidays. Sponsors often include businesses, civic groups, faith communities, schools and individuals.
Chore Services 952-496-2125
Provides senior citizens with indoor and outdoor maintenance services to help enable older adults to continue to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

This program enables individuals or families to obtain low-interest bank financing to purchase affordable transportation for work.
